The Wesleyan Covenant Association’s new resource, “A Firm Foundation: Hope and Vision for a New Methodist Future,” is now available for United Methodist laity and clergy. The book sets forth our understanding of the Christian faith according to the Wesleyan tradition. Recognized leaders in our denomination like Maxie Dunnam, Carolyn Moore, David Watson, and several others are the book’s authors. Each chapter concludes with a series of questions for discussion and reflection. The book is accompanied by a DVD which provides a short overview of each chapter by Jessica LaGrone, Dean of the Chapel at Asbury Theological Seminary.
The special General Conference called by our Council of Bishops will be held in sixteen months. Now is the time to begin the discussion of the foundational principles of a faithful United Methodist witness as we look to our future. We can no longer afford to avoid engaging the issues which will define who we are as a church. Your local church needs to be prepared for what lies ahead. A Firm Foundation and the companion DVD are important resources for study and discussion as clergy and lay leadership teams and small groups prepare for the future.
“A Firm Foundation” will help you facilitate a faithful and hopeful conversation. As Dr. William Abraham, Outler Professor of Wesley Studies at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, writes in the book’s Foreword, “We have started a long-haul conversation that will continue for years to come. Within this, there are and will be disagreements. But the table is set.”
Join us at the table, and invite others to gather with you. Ensure that you and your church are ready to embrace the future as it unfolds in the coming days.
Through the end of this week, both the book and the DVD are being offered at a discount at firmfoundationUMC.com. Place your order today.
