The Wesleyan Covenant Association is thrilled to announce that Dr. Carlos Alarcon will address its Third Global Gathering at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church in Marietta, Georgia on Saturday, November 3, 2018.
“Carlos is first and foremost a faithful disciple of Christ. I see that so often in his willingness to give sacrificially of his time, talent, and service to our church and community,” said his pastor, Rev. Dr. Jody Ray, senior pastor at Mt. Bethel UM Church. “Our congregation is filled with gracious, servant-leaders, and Carlos is certainly one of them. We are excited that people across the UM Connection will have the opportunity to hear his presentation at the WCA’s Global Gathering.”
Alarcon’s presentation, “Unashamed in the Midst of a Postmodern World,” will be part of the Gathering’s “Unashamed!” theme. The event is expected to attract thousands of United Methodists across the connection.
Alarcon, a native of Bogota, Colombia, moved to the United States with his parents when he was a child. He studied at the University of Georgia, and then received his medical degree and specialty training at Emory University. He currently practices and serves his community as an OB-GYN and serves as a clinical faculty member at WellStar Kennestone Hospital where he trains the next generation of physicians.
A devoted member at Mt. Bethel UM Church, Alarcon serves as a member of the church’s administrative council. He also leads a men’s small group, and he and his wife Casey teach a children’s Sunday school class. In addition to taking leading roles in his local church, Alarcon is president of the WCA regional chapter in the North Georgia Annual Conference.
“Carlos is a greatly admired and highly respected doctor in our community,” said Ferrell Coppedge, lay leader at Mt. Bethel UM Church. “Despite the significant demands on his time as a physician, he and Casey have staunchly supported and defended Mt. Bethel’s long standing commitment to the authority of Scripture. He is a winsome, authentic leader, who manages to balance a genuine message of love and grace that carries the weight of truth.”
Alarcon considers Marietta his hometown, where he and his wife are raising their three children. When he is not working or serving, he enjoys running, sailing with his family, traveling, and cheering on his children from the sidelines!
