Dear Members and Friends of the Wesleyan Covenant Association,
It is my privilege to invite you to the Wesleyan Covenant Association’s Fifth Global Gathering to be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Frazer Church in Montgomery, Alabama. We welcome your attendance at our host site or at one of the many simulcast sites that will be available across the United Methodist connection. Please save the date. We plan to open registration for Go Global! in the second half of February; we will share more information about the event at that time.
This year’s theme – “Go Global!” – is inspired by Jesus’ command to his disciples, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28.19-20).
Go they did! And the command the disciples responded to is as imperative today as it was 2,000 years ago. So as traditionalists in The United Methodist Church, preparing for a new global Methodist movement, we will spend a day together preparing our hearts and minds to go as well. We will do so by reflecting on Peter and Paul who dared to go to new places and to different people in order to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
As always, we will have a line-up of inspirational presenters, powerful times of worship, and we will close our day together with the celebration of Holy Communion.
Friends, we are still in the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic, but like you are praying and trusting that by May 1, 2021, many of us will have good reason to feel better about traveling and being part of a conference. We know it is likely that some restrictions will still be in force, so we will certainly abide by all the pandemic protocols that our host site and simulcast sites are observing at the time of our event.
Despite the delay of The United Methodist Church’s General Conference, we believe the momentum for the creation of a new global Methodist movement is stronger than it has ever been. Our global gatherings have inspired and encouraged people to press forward to what God has in store for us, and we want this year’s gathering – “Go Global!” – to do the same! So please mark May 1 on your calendar so you can join us. Until then, please be in prayer for our time together.
