Friends,
The Transitional Leadership Council (TLC) of the Global Methodist Church (www.globalmethodist.org) has been hard at work preparing for its legal formation and beginning of operations. The TLC continues to meet almost weekly doing the work necessary to ensure that the GM Church is ready to launch. A complete listing of the members of the TLC may be accessed at https://www.globalmethodist.org/#leadership.
While we regularly revisit when to commence the official beginning of the GM Church, for now the TLC continues to believe the most prudent course of action is to wait until the General Conference of The United Methodist Church acts on the Protocol for Reconciliation and Grace through Separation. The UM Church’s Commission on General Conference has contracted with the Minneapolis Convention Center for that meeting to occur from August 29 to September 6, 2022. Clergy and churches will be able to align with the GM Church immediately upon the adjournment of the General Conference. We anticipate that the convening General Conference of the GM Church will be held in the fall of 2023 or spring of 2024, but clergy and churches will be able to align with the GM Church and operate under its Transitional Book of Doctrines and Discipline immediately upon alignment.
Much work is occurring in this season to prepare the GM Church for mission and ministry. Plans are being developed for planting new churches globally, for vibrant mission partnerships, for robust work with Methodists around the world who have not been part of the UM Church, and for renewed emphasis upon evangelism, disciple making, and multiplication. We are excited to engage our mission to make disciples who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly.
In this season, please pray fervently for the decades-long conflict in the UM Church to be resolved through its restructuring, for the birth of the GM Church, for churches and clergy to respond to the invitation to become part of the GM Church, and for God’s empowerment and equipping of the GM Church to fulfill its mission.
You can prepare for the future by becoming familiar with the Transitional Book of Doctrines and Discipline, by engaging the leadership of your church and its people to ensure that they understand the decisions they can make in the coming days, and by striving to ensure that the church you are a part of is impacting its mission field for Christ now. We are grateful for your interest in the GM Church.
          In Christ,
               Keith Boyette, Chair
               Transitional Leadership Council
