Leading The Charge

The Wesleyan Covenant Association is pleased to announce that nominations for its Global Council are now open. Women and men who have discerned a call to serve God, the WCA, and the greater traditionalist movement, are encouraged to apply by completing the nomination form on the WCA website (nominations are closed).

Nominees for the Global Council are required to be members in good standing of the Wesleyan Covenant Association including having paid their current dues. Council members must also affirm their agreement with the WCA’s Statements of Biblical Authority, Faith, and Moral Principles found on our website. Elections will take place at the virtual Global Legislative Assembly to be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 10am. Elected members will begin their three years of service at the conclusion of the Assembly.

At the 2022 Global Legislative Assembly, the WCA’s bylaws were amended to decrease the size of the Global Council. Accordingly, this year the Global Legislative Assembly will elect eight new members. One of the Council members must live on the continent of Europe.

Key to effective leadership on our Global Council is a willingness to embrace and help lead the WCA’s mission. The mission of the Wesleyan Covenant Association is:

  • To act as advocate and ally on behalf of churches and annual conferences which seek pathways out of The United Methodist Church and into the Global Methodist Church.
  • To contend for fair, just, and amicable pathways out of The United Methodist Church for all, including progressives as well as traditionalists.
  • To support efforts to maintain faithful adherence and accountability to the standards of doctrine and discipline embodied in The Book of Discipline as it now stands in The United Methodist Church.
  • To continue to act as an advisor and contributor to the leaders of the Global Methodist Church, as they work to shape its doctrine, polity, and mission during this formative period, and in preparation for a convening General Conference.

Our movement is in a critical time. We are in the final year of disaffiliation from The United Methodist Church as paragraph 2553 (governing disaffiliation) sunsets on December 31, 2023. God has blessed the WCA with gifted and Spirit-filled women and men to help lead us over the years. We look forward to welcoming new leaders to aid our movement through this crucial moment in time.
