The mission of the Wesleyan Covenant Association includes preparing for next steps once the 2019 special General Conference of The United Methodist Church has acted on the legislation that will be before it. In order to prepare for every eventuality, the Global Legislative Assembly authorizes the formation of a working group to envision a revitalized Methodist movement within or, if necessary, outside the UM church.
This working group will be composed of not less than sixteen persons and may access persons who are members of the WCA in contributing roles reporting to the working group. The task of the working group will be to develop and recommend a structure for such a revitalized Methodist movement.
The working group shall be chaired by the Rev. Dr. Jeff Greenway, chair of the WCA Council, and shall be supported by the Rev. Keith Boyette, President of the WCA, and by the Rev. Walter Fenton, Vice President of Strategic Engagement of the WCA. The membership of the task force shall be elected by the WCA Council.
The group shall provide monthly updates to the WCA Council on its progress beginning with the Council meeting on the first Wednesday of December. The group shall conclude its work and submit all of it to the WCA Council by Wednesday, February 20, 2019. Should the Council determine it is necessary, it shall convene a conference of a new Methodist movement to be held within sixty (60) days of the adjournment of the 2019 special General Conference.
