The Wesleyan Covenant Association is pleased to announce that the Rev. Angela Pleasants, the WCA’s Vice President for Clergy and Church Relations, will address its Sixth Global Gathering – More Than Conquerors – in Indianapolis, Indiana on Saturday, May 7, 2022.
“We are blessed by Angela’s presence on the WCA’s leadership team, and we are happy WCA members and friends will have the opportunity to hear her speak at our sixth Global Gathering,” said the Rev. Keith Boyette, President of the WCA. “She’s a theologian, a church leader, a preacher, a chaplain for police officers, and a storyteller, among many other things. Her many experiences come shining through in her writing, preaching, and presentations. I know people will find Angela’s presentation challenging and encouraging.”
Focusing on selected verses from Psalm 107, Pleasants will explore how God, time and again, delivered the Israelites from despair when they were a lost and defeated people.
Pleasants is a graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (Greensboro) and Duke Divinity School (Durham, North Carolina). Prior to joining the WCA leadership team she served as an elder in the Western North Carolina Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. In addition to leading local churches, she also served as District Superintendent and Chief Missional Strategist in the conference’s Catawba District, as the chairwoman of the conference’s board of elders, and as a member of its board of ordained ministry. Her colleagues twice elected her as a General Conference delegate (2008 and 2012).
Since joining the WCA staff, Pleasants has traveled throughout the U.S. helping laity and pastors navigate a transition from the UM Church to the Global Methodist Church. In addition to making numerous in-person presentations, she regularly meets with WCA regional chapters around the world via Zoom calls.
An avid hiker, Pleasants annually logs hundreds of miles trekking trails in the Appalachian Mountains. She also continues to volunteer as a chaplain for community police departments in and around her home base in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“Angela is the real deal,” said the Rev. Dr. Carolyn Moore, Chairwoman of the WCA’s Global Council and Lead Pastor at Mosaic Church in Evans, Georgia. “She’s smart, feisty, and a woman with a big heart for lay people and pastors. The WCA Council is thrilled she’s a member of the WCA staff, and we’re looking forward to her message at our Global Gathering.”
The Sixth Global Gathering will be held at Kingsway Christian Church with seating for 1,260 people. People wanting to attend the gathering at the host site should register as soon as possible. In addition to the host site there will be numerous simulcast sites across the United States where people can also participate in the WCA’s Sixth Global Gathering.
