Fair for Some Fair for All
The United Methodist Church has been going through a painful period of congregational disaffiliations since 2019.
Denominational conflict over matters of sexuality, governance, the definition of marriage, and qualifications for ordination have led to approximately 25% of UMC local churches disaffiliating from the denomination. The process for local churches to disaffiliate, however, has been limited to congregations in the United States alone. To move this initiative forward successfully, the WCA will network with General Conference delegates, promote legislation developed by Central Conference United Methodists, advocate for the General Conference to authorize an ongoing process for congregations to separate from the UMC, and provide information and other resources to that end.
Check out the developing resources on this page to hear the voices of non-USA United Methodists. Encourage others to take up this initiative: what is fair for some should be fair for all. This appeal for simple equity is among the agenda priorities for the General Conference this spring.

Welcome to a special series of podcasts from the Wesleyan Covenant Association in preparation for the General Conference of the United Methodist Church. About a quarter of United Methodist churches here in the U.S. have disaffiliated from the denomination and many have joined the new Global Methodist Church. Others here in the United States and especially in United Methodist Central Conferences around the world are seeking their opportunity to determine their next steps, and disaffiliation will continue to be an important topic at the upcoming United Methodist General Conference that begins on April 23, 2024.
To prepare for that landmark General Conference meeting, WCA President Rev. Dr. Scott Field is hosting a new series of podcasts, Short Takes on Hot Topics. Our hope is to provide you with important voices and perspectives as delegates to the General Conference prepare for their unique responsibility.
